One Response to Why Certified Organic????

  1. I have studied the certified organic skincare market for 10years and in this time developed the first retail store in a major shopping centre (Brisbane, Australia) selling only Australian Made certified organic skin and body care for the whole family.
The dream was to franchise the business model and expand globally. What I did not realise at the time was, I was still about 10 years to early in the Australian market. The consumer is still at large unaware of the differences between organic and synthetic ingredients.
The positive of the business model was I created the perfect process to convert the client to a new way of thinking. This took employing the right minded people (which can be hard to find), and training these minds to understand a new way of consuming. Once the information was delivered the light bulb went on for the sales person and the store sales grew. I could not keep up with the supply and demand. However I lost sight of what the dream was and needed investors quick smart to sustain the vision and transform the concept to the next phase.
After five years in business I transformed the retail store to a Spa and retail business and became the first certified organic Day Spa in Australia. I did all this without having capital at my finger tips. I fell out of love for what I was doing because I could not do it all alone, the business partners involved did not want investors on their terms and they did not understand the big picture, I did not draw the line in the sand quick enough.
The business went completely web based and operates at a totally different capacity as the retail store once did.
Now I believe the opportunity awaits all of you producing certified organic skincare. What we need is for David Jones or Myer to see their business model offers a “No Health Choice Section” and this is not good enough! These super stores don’t need a peewee section dedicated to a couple of certified organic skincare products or half hearted so called organic products. They need a floor dedicated to EVERYTHING CERTIFIED ORGANIC! As the consumer walks on the floor immediately! they have peace of mind, they have well equipped trained staff who can work with health needs of the individual or the whole family.
I am sure this will come to be.

Key points to think about when you start your organic skincare business
    • You’re not the only one making organic skincare, you need a bigger story then you had health concerns and went looking for organic and could not find it…Guess what DJ’s & Myer have not bought into the idea yet so you’re not going to find organic skincare everywhere.

    • When you decide to develop a Certified Organic Skincare product, pick the country you’re going to export to, because Guess what DJ’s & Myer have not bought into the idea yet so you’re not going to find distributers in Australia. And when you think you’re lucky and get a product into the health food store unless they have the right sales people selling the product via recommendation… forget it, send in the dust buster because your products won’t well they’ll collect dust.

    • When you choose your packaging be very careful, clients may like your ingredients however if the pump does not work or the neck of the bottle does not travel well, you’ll be ditched in a hurry. Make your product in packaging that is drop friendly, nothing worse than smashing all over the floor.
    • When ebar operated in the Shopping Centre its main client was Mothers with Children trying to stay away from synthetic ingredients. And sadly next largest clients were men women and children who were diagnosed with cancer or other related illnesses. In your marketing message become the expert in raising the vibration of health for the planet.
    • Be ready to grow your business, separate your business from your personal assets and choose your business partners very carefully. Family are quick to give you money and don’t always want to help make it all work, then when/if things go pear shaped they really couldn’t afford to lose the money. Be prepared to make mistakes, and mistakes cost MONEY which can be replaced, however relationships can be far harder to replace.
    • Be ready to let your potential clients try your products, including their clients. TESTERS TESTERS TESTERS! If that was the only marketing you did DO IT! and don’t charge your clients for them, offset this cost as marketing.
I am happy to discuss how to help your business to succeed and grow in the world of certified organic.
